Groundskeeper/Custodian (Maintenance)



POSITION TITLE: Groundskeeper/Custodian-RFT CLASSIFICATION: Nonexempt DEPARTMENT: Tamaya Wellness Center (TWC) SUPERVISOR: Grounds Maintenance Supervisor GRADE: NE3

Position Summary:Groundskeeper/Custodian; performs basic and routine maintenance of baseball andsoftball fields, grounds keeping and custodial duties for the Wellness Center building andfacilities; also responsible for repair and maintenance and operation of lawn, landscapingequipment and irrigation system. May coordinate efforts in custodial and grounds keepingresponsibilities with the Wellness Center maintenance staff as needed or as time permits.*This position will work evenings, and weekends; hours will vary depending onthe baseball schedule. * This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:• Maintains lawns at baseball and softball fields as well as surrounding areas. • Ensures watering, feeding and irrigation systems are functioning properly and timedfor correct watering and maintenance.• Ensures lawns are prepped for winter and spring conditions. • Sweeps, mops, dusts, cleans floors, washes windows, and performs other generalhousekeeping duties in Concession stand and Announcer's booth areas.• Ensures maintenance equipment, lawn equipment tools, and materials are clean, safeand in working order.• Maintains and performs minor maintenance on softball and baseball facilities includingreplacement of light fixtures and air filters, painting and graffiti removal and repair or 3• Cleaning of parking lots, dumpster area, and other exterior areas of buildings.• Empties trash containers and removes trash and weeds from fields, surroundinggrounds and buildings.• Maintains logs and records of work performed and materials and equipment used.• Inventories and requests equipment and supplies.• Cleans and maintains facility and grounds as directed.• Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.• Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED preferred; six months custodial work and groundskeeping experiencerequired with experience in golf, baseball or softball fields; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen andbackground investigation including a motor vehicle check. Must possess and maintain a valid NewMexico driver's license and be insurable under the Pueblo's insurance.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Certifications:• Knowledge of traditional form of government and pueblo customs and traditions. • Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices.• Ability to verbally communicate effectively in the English language.• Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying socialand cultural backgrounds.• Knowledge of lawns and basic landscaping techniques and maintenance • Knowledge of how to use ground keeping equipment such as, weed eater, lawn mower, rideon mower and blower.• Knowledge of watering and irrigation systems.• Ability to use hand or power tools or equipment.• Ability to safely use cleaning products and safely operate cleaning equipment.• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.• Knowledge of cleaning and caring for buildings, grounds, and equipment.• Ability to work as a team member in a structured working environment.• Ability to demonstrate excellence in necessary skills, and continually seek improvement inresults.• Skill in the proper use of cleaning tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants.• Ability to become OSHA certified.
Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand, usehands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Theemployee frequently is required to walk; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employeeoccasionally is required to sit. Considerable physical activity; heavy physical work; heavymoving, lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds is a primary part of the job.
Work Environment: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Exposure to fumes or airborne particles mayoccur, and the incumbent is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and inclementweather. May be exposed to moderate or high noise levels. Work involves some exposure tohazards or physical risks, which may require wearing safety-toe shoes, safety goggles, gloves orprotective face shields. There is frequent interaction with children, the public and employees.
