Systems Database Administrator I (Finance)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work with a highly motivated, talented group in our CTS Database team, to support ALLETE enterprise technology infrastructure, to potentially include a combination of:

  • Installing and configuring Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases, and other database related applications.
  • Managing corporate application and database servers, database lifecycle management, backup and recovery infrastructure, and advanced end user support, all with an eye toward cybersecurity and vulnerability management.
  • Provide support to meet business objectives for our computing environment.
  • Analyze, design, re-engineer, test, implement and continuously improve our computer infrastructure to ensure operational, regulatory and security standards are met.
  • Provide support and training to end users.
  • Create and maintain critical documentation.
  • Assure system performance and reliability.
  • Participate in continuous learning and collaborate with fellow Cyber Technology Services teammates on projects.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in an IT related area such as Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or another related field of study required.
    • Candidates completing their degree by December 31, 2025 will be considered.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • No experience required.
    • Experience supporting computer systems, programming, databases, or system administration preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on ALLETE's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee's position will be a blend of work performed both in-person and at an offsite location such as an employee's home office. This position will report to Duluth, MN.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must demonstrate the ability and desire to learn new concepts and technologies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • The ability and desire to provide exemplary customer service to our businesses.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to provide occasional after-hours support.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
  • The expected annual compensation range for this position is $65,000 - $82,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
