Job Summary

The Innovation Engineer (IE) at Oldcastle APG is a highly skilled and motivated individual who is passionate about solving problems and passionate about technology. This person will support the implementation and integration of accepted new technologies into plant operations to improve the process. That starts with identifying technologies that will reduce performance gaps, operational risks and proposing solutions. The IE will be part of a multi-disciplined dedicated innovation and project team that works closely with many business units and Operations teams to ensure the issues are scoped properly and the proposed solutions fit the business needs. The IE will participate in the Technology Development process; at times as a contributor, at other times as a project lead. Depending on the state of the technology, this process may involve lab scale trials, engineering reviews, and plant pilot trials. The goal is to carry the solution through to operational deployment and eventually scale up.

Job Location

  • This position is hybrid and is located at our headquarters in Atlanta, GA.

Job Responsibilities

  • Execute laboratory trials and tests for new solutions, lead demonstrations.
  • Plan and support the deployment and implementation process, conduct plant visits when implementing new solutions.
  • Participate in fully understanding and mapping of current existing operational processes.
  • Must collaborate with various departments and teams within our organization, work closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, designers, and domain experts, to understand project requirements and deliver impactful solutions.
  • Participate in technological reviews to identify operational gaps & improvements within our many operational processes that will translate into business impact.
  • Work with our ventures group to identify/evaluate potential startups that can be trialed and implemented at scale.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • Contribute to research initiatives and propose innovative solutions to address business needs.
  • Create a Technology Development Plan to carry the technology through from planning, design, execution, and monitoring to commercialization.
  • Actively participate in field execution of approved projects, within budget and scheduling constraints.
  • Contribute technically to the engineering and design phase of any site modifications for testing purposes including but not limited to pilot construction and plant tie-ins.
  • Must be assertive, creative and data driven to keep projects on time and within budget to meet deliverables while practicing intelligent risk management with consultation from team members, peers, and senior management.
  • Prepare progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Complete data analysis and technical evaluation of trials and properly document results, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Demonstrates history of positive interpersonal skills showing courtesy, tact, and understanding in interactions with co-workers, even under stressful circumstances.

Job Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3+ years of engineering experience in similar type applications and environment
  • Prior work experience in designing and planning pilot projects and a willingness to take on new technical challenges
  • Experience working on data driven projects with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven track record in systematic problem solving - proficient in identifying and assessing issues and proposing viable solutions
  • Must be bilingual English- French / oral & written
  • Experience/knowledge in the building materials industry (an asset)
  • Well-organized & autonomous
  • Health and safety oriented
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be willing to travel
