The Demonstration Operator develops and implements formal customer/operator training and demonstration plans in which all features and benefits of a machine are demonstrated to customers and new owners are instructed in the safe and productive operation of the purchased machine(s) in a manner that reflects the company's vision of working as “One Professional Team.” Additionally, this position serves as the New Product Information (NPI) coordinator for the Sales Department.

Pay Range:  $64,132.23 - $88,238.84 Annually
Pay range is dependent upon education & experience. 

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares a demonstration schedule for new products, generally 30 days in advance
  • Reports on results of job/production studies in sales meetings
  • Follows up on new deliveries should they not be onsite at that time
  • Updates and trains field sales force and Specialists on features and benefits of Caterpillar equipment including NPI
  • Interacts with manufacturers on NPI and Field Follow Units
  • Train Sales Reps on the GCI product line, features and selling techniques.
  • Assist sales persons in answering product and application questions
  • While demonstrating, discusses not only the operating features of each machine, but also points out all features that might be considered sales and safety features
  • Organizes, scripts and hosts equipment shows as they may occur
  • Assists in public relations activities
  • Conducts training sessions for owners and operators, instructing them on the proper and safe operation of the equipment they purchased
  • Prepares and takes charge of demonstrations from start to finish
  • Serves as the Total Cost Bid Specialist, developing and maintaining accurate owning and operating cost schedules on Caterpillar and competitive models
  • Conducts the training on and use of factory-installed technology features on equipment to customers and Wagner employees
  • Is an expert in Caterpillar Value Estimating Tools, including Fleet Production Cost, Vehicle Simulations, Earthmoving Fundamentals and Agricultural Tractor Production
  • Covers all maintenance points with customers
  • Makes sure the unit to be demonstrated is ready (check tire pressure, fuel levels, calibrated, etc.)
  • Performs job studies and performance evaluations when requested and practical
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3+ years experience in the heavy equipment industry where operator skills have been strongly developed
  • 1+ years administrative/clerical experience
  • 3+ years customer service experience
  • 1+ years sales experience

Physical Demands & Competencies:

  • Standing, walking, talking, sitting, use of hands & hearing
  • Squatting/Kneeling
  • Ability to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, etc.
  • Medium work that includes lifting and/or moving objects up to 32 pounds or more
  • Data Entry, telephone, reading/writing, reasoning, organizational, communication & math skills
  • Safety & Product Knowledge
  • Very strong machine application, performance, and production knowledge
  • General familiarity with paving products and quarry systems
  • Strong ability to operate heavy equipment and explain operation techniques
  • Strong public speaking, teaching, and relationship skills
  • Mechanical skills preferred
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Basic knowledge of DBS and Wynne/iRental
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Intermediate knowledge of CRM/Sales Link and ET/SIS/SIS Web/STW
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook

Work Environment:

  • Noise: Loud
  • Indoors and Outdoors

Travel Requirements:

  • 25-50%
