Sustainability Program Manager, Climate (Biotech)



Job Summary

Medline is seeking a dynamic and experienced Program Manager to implement its Environmental Sustainability strategy globally, with a strong emphasis on GHG emissions reduction. This role sits within Medline's global Sustainability Program and will oversee the administration of the company's greenhouse gas inventory, develop and implement carbon reduction strategies, and administer the climate risk assessment process. This role will closely partner and strategically align with divisional, functional and regional leaders to create and maintain action plans for carbon emissions reductions. This role requires a deep understanding of environmental sustainability practices in corporations, GHG accounting and project management.

Job Description

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

GHG Inventory

  • Maintain and update the company's greenhouse gas inventory, ensuring auditable, accurate tracking and reporting of emissions. 
  • Develop and document consistent governance procedures, roles and responsibilities for preparing, controlling and retaining carbon accounting data, working closely with the Controller Sustainability.
  • Ensure GHG inventory is aligned to regulatory and reporting requirements.
  • Continue to monitor and analyze various climate frameworks, standards, protocols and ratings for consideration in the context of how they do or do not align to Medline's global sustainability strategy and organizational goals.  For example, TCFD, CDP
  • Track and recommend improvements to the GHG inventory with regards to tools, methodologies and data improvements.
  • Implement prioritized improvements including new tools to support the creation and maintenance of the GHG inventory.
  • Create and present communications for internal stakeholders to better understand the process and outputs of the GHG Inventory.
  • Execute a communication plan for internal stakeholders, including the continued upskilling of data providers on requirements and compliance
  • Provide data and information for external communication, as required.

Carbon Reduction Planning

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data to monitor progress towards carbon reduction goals and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement effective carbon reduction plans, including plant controllers, suppliers, customers, and other collaborative groups.
  • Work closely with various departments to support and guide divisional carbon reduction plans. Ensure alignment with overall company sustainability goals.
  • Identify opportunities for emission reductions and sustainable practices.
  • Support projects with our customers regarding carbon reduction activities.
  • Lead and manage carbon reductions projects as needed.

Climate Risk Assessment

  • Manage the climate risk assessment process by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, utilizing third party sources as necessary to update the climate risk assessment regarding Medline's transition and physical risks.
  • Collaborate with Sustainability risk and Enterprise Risk Management teams to incorporate updates into the Sustainability and Enterprise Risk models and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop strategies to mitigate these risks and enhance resilience, as required.

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Degree in sustainability, business or other relevant degree/experience combination.

Certification / Licensure

  • None required.

Work Experience

  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Strong analytical skills, project management experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and proficiency in data analysis tools.
  • Working knowledge of GHG Protocol, greenhouse gas inventory management, carbon reduction strategies, and climate risk assessment.
  • Familiarity with the CDP, TCFD and other relevant sustainability raters/rankers, frameworks, etc.

PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Advanced degree in sustainability, business or other relevant area

Certification / Licensure

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification

Work Experience

  • Management of GHG Inventory and/or decarbonization plans
  • Medical device manufacturing and distribution

The anticipated salary range for this position:

$115,440.00 - $173,160.00 Annual

The actual salary will vary based on applicant's location, education, experience, skills, and abilities. This role is bonus and/or incentive eligible. Medline will not pay less than the applicable minimum wage or salary threshold.
