Civil/Hydraulic Engineer (Finance)

Tetra Tech is currently seeking a Project Manager / Civil Design Project Engineer to support ongoing projects and contracts, and support business development in the future (i.e., a seller-doer role). Business development includes; development of relationships with clients in New Mexico and across the nation, to support responses to proposals and prepare grant applications for various state and federal agencies.

The ideal candidate will have an emphasis on flood risk management design with experience preparing plans, specifications, and estimates to complete a wide variety of challenging and complex hydrologic, hydraulic, and sediment transport analysis and design projects. Potential projects include; floodplain management (levee and channel design, certification and inspection; floodplain mapping; and aquatic habitat restoration and enhancement), 1D and 2D hydraulic modeling, dam and reservoir operations modeling, sediment transport analysis, fluvial geomorphology , hydrographic survey, dam repair design and safety (probable maximum flood analysis, dam break analysis, inundation mapping and preparation of emergency action plans), river and floodplain restoration design, and determination/mitigation of water resources project impacts.

This position will report to our Albuquerque, NM office.

More About This Role:

• Manage the preparation of plans, specifications and estimates for design of facilities including levees, channels, in-stream and floodplain restoration features such as bio-engineered projects and levee setbacks, culverts/bridges, bioengineered bank protection measures, grade controls, and spillways.

• Responsible for hydrologic and hydraulic modeling studies typically pertaining to surface water resources, watershed characteristics, open channel hydraulics, water/dam operations, and fluvial geomorphology.

• Perform sediment transport and scour analyses to support water resources projects.

• Participate in field data collection activities, including hydrographic surveys, sediment sampling, geomorphic reconnaissance, and topographic surveys.

• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team that includes geomorphologists, biologists, ecologists, and planners, as well as other hydraulic and water resources engineers.

• Supervise and delegate work to junior engineers and support staff as necessary to manage specific design engineering tasks within larger complex projects.

• Contribute to business development, marketing, and proposal preparation efforts.

• Review and provide QA/QC for engineering design

You'll Bring These Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (or related field). A Master's Degree with specialization in hydraulics is preferred but not required.

• Professional Engineer license required

• 8+ years of professional experience in water resources design.

• Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D

• Experience with 1-D steady and unsteady modeling such as HEC-RAS and similar.

• Experience with hydrologic modeling such as HEC-HMS, and SWMM as well as statistical analysis of flow record.

• Experience with 2-D modeling (RAS-2D, FLO-2D, ADH, SRH-2D and similar).

• Experience with Sediment Transport modeling (HEC-RAS, HEC-6T, SIAM and similar) a plus.

• Experience and knowledge of FEMA requirements (including C/LOMR processing) a plus.

• Solid technical writing, presentation and communication skills.

• Manage project budgets and schedules.

The salary range for this position is approximately $90,000 to $120,000 depending on education, qualifications, and experience.
