Library Manager, Digital Research Commons (Finance)

Description:

This position supports the public services functions of the University Libraries through the effective management of student and staff employees, participation in the reference desk rotation, and customer service, network and user support assistance.

1. Hire, train, supervise, and schedule student workers to provide user assistance and customer service.
2. Participate in the reference desk rotation, providing reference assistance to library users.
3. Participate in service desk rotation (circulation and reserves) and resolve public service issues.
4. Hire, train, supervise and evaluate Library Specialist(s) and/or staff.
5. Work with Library Systems (computing and networking) staff to identify and resolve problems in public computing services; may also work with integrated library system (ILS) staff to resolve ILS issues.
6. Participate as a member of the Libraries' Public Workstations Committee to establish and review policies on public computing services.
7. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

This position manages the University of Houston Libraries' Digital Research Commons (DRC) facility, coordinating its current and future physical, virtual, and hybrid research environments through effective collaboration with staff in the Research Services department, other Libraries departments, the Digital Humanities Core facility and other affiliated campus units. This position is broadly responsible for managing all student labor associated with DRC operations and coordinating space, equipment, and software needs associated with services and programming offered through the space. This position will engage in future initiatives of the Libraries' Research Services department, including the development of the Digital Humanities Core (DHC) physical facility and the management of its operations.

Duties Specific to This Position:
- Oversee routine, day-to-day administrative functions of the DRC, including compiling usage and other assessment statistics, drafting documentation on equipment and facility operations, maintaining public and internal calendars, public and internal websites, and listserv(s), as well as maintaining open hours
- Hire, train, supervise, and schedule student workers to provide user assistance and customer service in the DRC
- Create processes for ongoing assessment of all the resources of the DRC
- Manage and maintain software, technology, and equipment, in collaboration with Library Technology Services, and recommend advancements based on community engagement needs
- Administer oversight and tracking of user accounts and space allocations within DHC's Reclaim Hosting and Cloud infrastructures
- Work with Library Technology Services and University IT staff to identify and resolve problems in public computing services
- Work with Libraries Building Administrator Manager to resolve DRC physical space issues
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications Specific to This Position:
- Familiarity with technologies and equipment commonly used by academic researchers
- Experience creating or adhering to policies and procedures in an academic space or setting
- Demonstrated understanding of best practices relating to assessment of academic spaces or operations

Preferred Qualifications Specific to This Position:
- Experience managing student employees
- Experience administering web hosting or cloud environments

The ideal candidate should possess the following:

MQ: Requires the ability and knowledge for analysis and interpretation of procedures, policies and practices attainable through specific education and/or training programs in a specialty or technical field. Advanced vocational or electronic skills or a basic knowledge of a professional field is required. An Associate's degree or certification/licensing in a technical specialty program of over 18 months and up to 3 years duration are characteristic of this field. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
