Power Plant Electrician (Finance)



Department: Facilities Operation and Maint Salary: Commensurate with Experience/Education
Description:

Performs preventive, scheduled and corrective maintenance on the university's central utility plant electrical and control systems with voltages ranging up to 12,400 volts. Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.

1. Installs, maintains, modifies and repairs electrical equipment and control systems including, but not limited to, protective devices, controls, meters, variable speed drives and motor starters.

2. Troubleshoots and corrects electrical equipment and control systems. Traces circuits and tests continuity of electrical and electronic circuits utilizing amp meter, voltmeter, ohmmeter, as-built drawings and visual inspections.

3. Maintains, repairs and calibrates programmable logic controller (PLC) systems for chiller and boiler burner management.

4. Serves as standard electrician and installs, maintains and repairs plant electrical panels, breakers, branch circuits and lighting as needed.

5. Periodically tests electrical equipment for safety and accuracy, reports unusual conditions, problems or deficiencies to supervisor.

6. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains a clean and safe work environment.

7. Serves on special task force during periods of emergency such as floods, storms, hurricanes, etc.

8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MQ: Requires specialized training in basic trades, principles, procedures, practice, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.

Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience. Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on the job posting details. Requires State of Texas Journeyman Electrical license.
