EHS Specialist (Finance)

The EHS Specialist reports to the Operations Manager and provides overall EHS leadership and guidance to their assigned facilities. This role is critical to driving EHS excellence at the facility-level by effectively implementing the Company's EHS Management System and integrating environmental / safety compliance and management systems into manufacturing operations. Champions operational excellence by showing employees how their actions connect to company's EHS vision and create long term value.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Implements the company's EHS Management System, integrating environmental and safety compliance and management systems into manufacturing operations.
  • Provides EHS leadership and training to meet day-to-day environmental health and safety requirements.
  • Drives continuous improvement of the company's environmental health and safety management system, and coordinates with other company EHS resources.
  • Educates leaders on major environmental and safety regulations and represents the facility during environmental and safety agency inspections.
  • Tracks metrics and creates reports.

Environmental Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains environmental permits (air, water, wastewater, and hazardous waste), including required reporting and required notifications.
  • Conducts facility environmental audits.
  • Completes facility reports required by permits and coordinate monthly, quarterly, and yearly EHS compliance forms.
  • Maintains all required environmental policies, procedures, and plans.
  • Responsible for staying updated on environmental regulations and informing management of changes.

Safety Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains compliance with government (OSHA and similar agencies) safety regulatory compliance requirements, e.g., machinery guards, interlock systems, etc.
  • Responsible for staying updated on safety regulations and informing management of changes.
  • Conducts safety training for all employees, including new hires.
  • Develops Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) and revisions.
  • Implements Energy Control Programs (LOTO).
  • Facilitates the plant safety committee and assists in the safety committee members' development.
  • Conduct facility EHS audits.
  • Keeps accident records and completed reports required by law and company policy, including first aid and near miss reports, accident investigation, etc.
  • Conducts accident investigations.
  • Maintains the facility's EHS training program.
  • Responsible for assisting in the implementation of behavior modification and similar programs.
  • Maintain monthly accident analysis for facility.
  • Assist in setting facility safety goals, e.g., Zero Accident Goal
  • Attend and participate in all corporate, insurance, government, Fire Marshall, etc. safety inspections.
  • Attend safety conferences and seminars to improve safety knowledge and skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Position may require overnight travel on an occasional basis.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor Degree in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Engineering, or a comparable related discipline.
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage at all levels to build rapport throughout the organization.
  • Strong influencing skills and ability to share ideas confidently and effectively.
  • Effective communication skills, written and oral.
  • Overnight travel (approximately 10%), including driving and air travel is required.
