Shop Hand (Finance)



Job Description

Summary/objective:
Under general or direct supervision, the Shop Maintenance-Mechanic Trainee will support the Equipment Shop Manager and the Heavy Equipment Mechanics I & II. Able to assist the Equipment Shop Manager to maintain compliance in all Federal, State, and Local Department of Transportation documents, and fleet maintenance management tracking.
Essential Functions:

Clean, wash, and polish all fleet vehicles, Travel Trailers, and Equipment. Clean and detail the inside of all vehicle cabs, equipment cabs, and Travel Trailers. Wash and clean all windshields, windows, and mirrors. Rotate inventory to keep all assets clean.
Fuel, grease, and lubricate a variety of equipment and fleet vehicles as instructed.
Recharge batteries, verify that all parked vehicles and equipment can be started to operate or drive at all times.
Monitor all tire pressure and condition for all parked vehicles, trailers, equipment, Travel Trailers. Report any fleet tire issues to the Equipment Shop Manager.
Clean the fleet yard and shop areas, maintain all equipment in a parked organized manner. Perform yard and equipment shop janitorial duties.
Take inventory of all fleet assets and do a daily inspection on all fleet and equipment items to assure that they are in the proper working condition and that no damage or theft have occurred during business and non-business hours.
Assist Shop Administrative Assistant with vehicle and equipment documents, making sure new documents are placed in fleet vehicles or upon license plates as necessary.
Assist in putting away new inventory, tools, and shop equipment; make sure that all the inventory is organized. Clean all shelving, and storage units keeping area dust free.
Assist Heavy Equipment Mechanics I & II with any repairs as needed. May assist Heavy Equipment Mechanics on field calls as needed.
Deliver and pick up parts and supplies. May be assigned to deliver parts and supplies to project job sites.
Perform general cleaning of equipment and mechanical tools used in the shop or mobile repair units.
May perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and light repairs as assigned. Must identify and report significant repair and maintenance issues to the Equipment Shop Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Work Environment:

All work is performed either inside a machine shop with open bay doors, or outside in various types of weather (i.e. heat, cold, wind, sun and inclement weather, etc.).
Exposure to all types of automotive solvents.
Exposure to all elements of nature on a regular basis.
Exposure to loud noises.
Exposure to fumes, odors, gases, dusts, etc.

Physical Demands - The physical demands below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

Must have good visual and auditory physical capabilities in order to manage sight and sounds in a hazardous machine shop environment.
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Coordination between hands, eyes, and feet to guide equipment and objects is required.
Occasionally sit; frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
Must be able to push and pull with hands, arms, and feet repetitively.
Must be able to push, pull, climb, sit, and stretch regularly while performing the essential functions of the job.
Must be able to be alert and cognitive of multiple concurrent activities, including awareness of other employees, subcontractors, machinery, equipment, and moving traffic when applicable.
Must be able to work around loud noises.
Must be able to mount and dismount safely off vehicles and equipment.
Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Must be able to work overtime as requested.
Must be able to walk on uneven terrain.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.

Travel Required:

Position travels outside the local area but usually within Northern California 10-20% of the time.

Required Education and Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of the equivalent to one year of vocational education in the automotive, truck, or heavy equipment service field may substitute for the required work experience of 1 to 3 years.
Must be mechanically inclined.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Heavy Equipment Mechanic experience: 1-3 years (2 years Preferred).
Fleet Mechanic experience: 1-3 years (2 years Preferred).

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

Valid driver license.
Clean driving record: 5 years
May be required to drive personal vehicle to multiple worksites during the workday. Proof of current/active automobile insurance if driving personal vehicle and assigned to multiple sites.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Cellphone for communication and scheduling.
