Database Administrator (Finance)



TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a full-time Database Administrator join our team in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Job Summary: The Database Administrator is responsible for maintaining, managing, and optimizing MS-SQL Server databases in support of Enterprise and External Web applications. This includes working closely with system managers and developers to optimize systems for availability and performance; and providing data analysis services. The Database Administrator also is responsible for maintaining applications, processes, and maintenance procedures; performance tuning; and documentation and management of changes to database operations.

Mandatory Requirement:
  • This is an onsite (non-remote) office position for the TransCore NC Raleigh Office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Propose innovative solutions and communicate ideas to the supervisor and to the group.
  • Work with software developers and senior team members to develop database designs and enhancements.
  • Provide technical assistance by responding to inquiries regarding errors, problems, or questions.
  • Proactive monitoring for logical (indexes, bad joins, best practices) and physical (file-group layout, disk latency) problems
  • Capacity planning - monitoring growth, pro-active archiving.
  • Monitor database performance, uptime, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required
  • Monitor performance of applications and/or programs after implementation, taking actions as required.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of the organization data warehouse
  • Troubleshoot application sluggishness and poor performance
  • Optimize SSRS reports and queries for performance, scalability, and efficiency, ensuring timely delivery and responsiveness of reports

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in computer science or equivalent from four-year college or university.

Required Skills & Experience:
  • 3 years of experience in Database Administration and Developer for very large and complex databases in SQL Server 2022,2019,2016, SQL Server 2008 R2 and 2008.
  • Working experience in Always-On Availability Groups (AAG) and HA/DR Troubleshooting
  • Expertise in T-SQL writing stored procedures, triggers, Cursor and functions.
  • Administering SQL Server High Availability and Disaster Recovery strategies.
  • Implemented the new SQL Server 2019/2016 mechanisms like data compression, online indexing, Contained Databases.
  • Proficiency and expertise in SQL Server Replication, Backup/Recovery, Disaster recovery and planning.
  • Having hands on experience in DR processes including Log shipping and Database Mirroring and AOAG
  • Ability to detect and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention
  • Troubleshoot performance problems, fine-tuning of databases and index Analysis.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Generates regular reports (as needed), configurations and standard operating procedures. Develops automated and ad hoc reports for business requirements.
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required
  • Performing debugging procedures on database scripts and programs, as well as resolving conflicts.
  • Worked on SQL Server 2019/2022 migration from SQL Server 2016.
  • Experience in Batch processes, Import, Export, Backup, Database Monitoring tools and Application support.
  • Ensure all proposed resolutions are tested and cross-checked before deployment
  • Working knowledge in Analysis Services (SSAS), and Clustering.
  • Proficient with MS SSRS (Required)
  • Familiarity with XML in SQL
  • Familiarity with Redgate monitoring tools
  • Strong commitment to effective communication laterally to support teams and vertically to senior management.
  • 24 X 7 Production Database on Call Support

Additional Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau.)
