Licensed Practical Nurse (Finance)



Student Health & Wellness Center is a primary care medical clinic for USF students. Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and nurses provide medical evaluation and care by appointment. Specialty services include, sexual health & gynecology, dermatology, behavioral health, sports medicine, travel medicine and antigen clinic. Lab services are available on site. We also assist students with immunization and insurance compliance, and administer the student health insurance plan.

This position will be a nursing resource person for the Tampa Student Health & Wellness Center. Primary duties will be to screen, room, and assist providers as required.

Special Skills/Training:
\n
Licensed Practical Nursing license, IV certification, BLS certification, Phlebotomy skills
\nMinimum qualifications:
  • This position requires licensure as a practical nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes, or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Chapter 64 B9, Florida Administrative Code.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Florida licensure as a licensed practical nurse, BLS and IV certification and competency in
    phlebotomy. At least five years of nursing experience in primary care, urgent care, college health or inpatient hospital setting
  • Florida licensure as a practical nurse, BLS and IV certification and competency in phlebotomy.

This position may be subject to a Level 1 or Level 2 criminal background check.

  • Perform initial assessments of acute care patients and documents relevant information in patient records. Prepares room for use, collects routine specimens and vital signs. May coordinate and direct patient care workloads and work flow of other medical personnel.

  • Assists Provider with diagnostic tests, physical examinations and special procedures and /or minor surgeries, such as colposcopy, biopsy, and cryotherapy. Provides pre and post procedure instructions/care to the patient as directed by the Provider/Registered Nurse. Completes prescription refills according to written protocols, or verbal/written order of the provider.

  • Administers prescribed medications (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, topical and intra dermal) and initiates intravenous therapy to replace body fluids as ordered by
    the provider. Performs other duties as covered under the LPN Practice Act and directed by the physician/provider.

  • Reviews medical records to assure completeness and follow-through with regard to previously ordered tests and reports. Provides basic education and screening on
    specific topics, such as self care prevention and treatment of communicable diseases, follow up as directed by Provider/Registered Nurse Performs other clerical and
    administrative duties in support of the clinic.

  • Carries out Provider orders for on-site patient care, to include but not limited to EKG; administration of oral, IM, or subcutaneous medications; initiation of and monitoring of intravenous fluids administration. Monitors patients admitted to the Infirmary for observation under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Triages telephone calls related to patient care. Uses established triage procedures/protocols to manage messages. Places telephone calls to patients and/or outside facilities as directed by Provider/Registered Nurse to relay instructions for care, orders, follow up instructions.
