Ammonia Technician - Woodbridge (R&D)

JOB SUMMARY

The Ammonia Technician will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of ammonia refrigeration systems, ensuring they function efficiently and safely. This role requires a strong understanding of ammonia systems, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on ammonia refrigeration systems to ensure optimal performance and prevent breakdowns.
  • System Monitoring: Regularly monitor system performance, including pressure, temperature, and fluid levels, to detect and address any anomalies.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols related to ammonia handling and refrigeration systems. Ensure compliance with OSHA and EPA standards.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues with refrigeration systems, utilizing technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections. Prepare reports as required.
  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly to any ammonia leaks or emergencies, following established procedures to mitigate risks.
  • Training and Development: Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and safety practices. Participate in ongoing training and certification programs.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other technicians, engineers, and facility staff to ensure seamless operations and address any system-related concerns.
  • Support the Facilities Maintenance team that may require maintenance activities outside of Refrigeration.
  • Develop the best practices for efficiency and effectiveness of documenting and tracking work activities.
  • Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • RETA Certification a plus.
  • 3 + years of HVAC-R experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems using formal techniques and failures. 
  • Experience with CMMS system for work order tracking and documentation.
  • Experience in Manufacturing, food processing, or related field.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and refrigeration and utilities processes and equipment. 
  • Compliance experience with Cal-OSHA, EPA, PSM and other codes/regulations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods of time.
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment (e.g., keyboard, mouse, copier, printer) for extended periods.
  • Must be able to pass a fit test and medical clearance for respirator use, in accordance with company policy.
  • Repeatedly ascend/descend stairs as part of daily duties.
  • Occasionally move, transport, and position objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in and around outdoor elements such as precipitation, wind, low/high temperatures, and elevated noise levels.
  • Work at elevated heights and near moving mechanical parts and lift truck traffic.

COMPENSATION

  • Hourly Pay Range Posted: $38.00 - $45.00/hr.
  • Actual compensation will be based on factors such as experience; skills, knowledge, and abilities; education; and other position related factors.
