Position Overview

We are offering an exciting Cost Accountant opportunity at a Fortune 500 material manufacturing and construction subsidiary located in Knoxville, TN. This role will involve adherence to accounting standards, collaborating with Project Managers and working closely with our estimating department to maintain detailed and organized project records. The ideal candidate will apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports as they relate to construction projects.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Function)

  • Complies and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to document business transactions.
  • Complies with applicable SOX requirements and corporate accounting policies (includes GAAP and IFRS).
  • Identifies and resolves problems and inconsistencies, determining appropriate corrective procedures.
  • Construction project set up in the accounting and job cost systems.
  • Subcontractor setups and payments
  • Monthly review of billings and costs
  • Evaluate construction contract requirements ensuring contract compliance, proper submissions, monitoring last day worked for lien or bond rights, and complete final closeout documentation in coordination with Project Managers
  • Provide backup to Controller and Assistant Controller as needed or required
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned
  • Perform all duties according to CRH Internal SOX and Fraud Controls
  • Observe confidentiality of company information; written and verbal.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from a four year college or university is preferred
  • Two to three years of related experience and /or training
  • Or Equivalent combinations of education and experience

Work Requirements

  • Excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills with the ability to meet tight and/or competing deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service skills required when working with a variety of departments and internal/external customers.
  • Excel skills required with the ability to maintain and work within complex spreadsheets and utilize various formulas.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office knowledge required.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Consistently appears for work at scheduled work time. This is an in-office position.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee handbook
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home occasionally, when required (less than 10% of time, typically)
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret and write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, and volume.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral forms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous accounting and business experience required.
  • Previous experience in cost analysis (asphalt, aggregates, ready-mix concrete) or related industries a plus.
  • Understanding of construction billings including retainage, liens and insurance
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet monthly deadlines.
  • Ability to work with ERP Solutions is crucial, SAP experience a plus.
  • This is an Exempt position with minimum of 40 hrs a week with the expectation of additional hours during month end close and special projects. There will be weekend hours during month end close. Month end close calendar is available and posted for accounting staff.
