Job Summary

The Integrity Technician position is responsible for maintenance and support of asset integrity programs for pipelines and other associated equipment for all Murphy's US Onshore production facilities. The Integrity Technician will need to ensure that these activities are done safely, meet regulatory deadlines and requirements, follow approved procedures, and are cost effective.

They will help drive both safety and maintain cost control by helping to build a culture based on "management by exception". In addition, they will need to have strong interpersonal skills to interface and influence other organizations both in the field and Houston offices. This will require excellent verbal and written skills to facilitate communication of decisions and setting the desired direction of the Integrity and Maintenance program.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with Houston Integrity Engineers on Chemical and Integrity Programs
  • Lead asset integrity initiatives in the field including providing Operations, Facilities and Maintenance support in the chemical and integrity programs
  • Assist Chemical Technicians on an as needed basis
  • Assist with the preparation of job plans, contracts, budgeting and forecasting costs associated with integrity activities
  • Support all pipeline and vessel integrity programs
  • Develop and maintain records for all surveys, tests, work progress reports or other integrity documentation including Cathodic Protection of pipelines
  • Assist vendor in baseline Cathodic Protection surveys on flowlines and tanks
  • Direct and/or conduct close interval surveys to detect deficiencies and correcting identified interference issues
  • Perform CP surveys on lines and tanks (yearly and as needed)
  • Assist in retrofit and maintenance of CP systems
  • Support all integrity related activities associated with new construction projects and maintenance
  • Direct and manage interactions with vendors with integrity testing, surveys, and inspections including but not limited to Cathodic Protection, coatings and NDE
  • Assess external coating conditions of facilities and piping
  • Assess internal coatings conditions of vessels where possible
  • Assist in tracking, analyzing and meeting integrity program KPI's
  • Assist with root cause investigations and analysis efforts for damage/failures associated with the chemical and integrity programs
  • Support where necessary routine and specialized pigging operations
  • Help scope and guide product selection and performance
  • Direct sampling/deliver samples to appropriate vendors for testing
  • Assist in evaluating vessels and piping according to applicable ASME, API and NACE Codes and standards
  • Demonstrate rapid reaction to day-to-day issues
  • Establishing a continuous improvement culture that challenges "normal operations" on a daily basis
  • Maintain knowledge and adhere to the latest industry standards and recommendations
  • Influence Maintenance, and other Functions, to adopt Murphy's "management by exception" philosophy
  • Supports the implementation of SAP throughout all aspects of operations
  • Coordinates all major repair activity through the use of SAP
  • Ensures that critical spare list is evergreen, and that Procurement is maintaining the required inventory
  • Ensure all regulatory and compliance permits, reports and forms are accurately completed and filed
  • Ability to effectively interact with other Functions (Marketing, HSE, Operations, Engineering, Accounting etc.)
  • Supports special projects as deemed necessary by the Integrity and Maintenance Teams

Licenses/ Certifications

  • Valid driver's license with no restrictions that would prohibit driving a company vehicle is required
  • API or NDT certifications preferred

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as an Integrity or Chemical Tech is an asset
  • General understanding of onshore field development and production operations including processing equipment
  • Ability to follow and apply new technological developments for corrosion inspection, monitoring and mitigation
  • Understands the philosophy around risk reduction for corrosion mechanisms in treatment, design, and implementation
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of government regulatory institutions
  • Experience with Permit to Work, Mechanical Isolation Standards and Risk Assessments
  • Ability to work weekends (as needed) to ensure integrity program safely and efficiently executed
  • Must be able to work long hours in a demanding environment
  • The successful candidate will live within 70-miles of Jourdanton, TX.

  • Continuing education such as technical diploma is preferred

  • Analytical problem solver and decision maker, with a focus on delivery of cost-effective solutions
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills

Physical requirements typically include standing, stooping, walking, climbing, lifting (up to 50 lbs.) and wearing various personal protective equipment (PPE) in extreme variations of temperature year-round. The successful candidate must be able to meet all the essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
