Bindery Coordinator - 1st Shift (Marketing)

Job Summary

The Bindery Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the efficient and productive flow of work through the bindery department. This role involves coordinating various tasks to support optimal bindery performance and providing support to the shift supervisor and Team Leads. The Bindery Coordinator will act as the primary point of contact for bindery-related issues, assist in managing workflow, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, this position requires performing bindery work in an operator role, including covering breaks and lunches, and addressing staffing gaps as needed.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for bindery-related issues and be well-versed in bindery processes. 25%
  • Perform bindery work in an operator role, including covering breaks, lunches, and addressing staffing gaps as needed. 25%
  • Assist supervisor with facilitation of late orders, workflow management, and communication of work assignments. 20%
  • Support continuous improvement by providing input on team members' performance and suggesting process improvements. 20%
  • Assist with weekly labor and break/lunch scheduling based on team dynamics and workflow needs. Other duties as assigned. 10%
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to adapt to changing demands and work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining productivity.
  • Ability to identify issues quickly and develop solutions to maintain workflow and productivity.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership qualities and the ability to guide and support team members effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with team members and plant leadership.
  • Exceptional logical reasoning skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations relevant to bindery operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of bindery processes (e.g., cutting, folding, stitching, and finishing) and the equipment used in these processes.
  • Keen attention to detail to ensure accuracy in bindery tasks and adherence to quality standards.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance practices specific to bindery work to ensure high standards are maintained.
  • Proficiency in operating bindery equipment and understanding technical specifications related to bindery work.
  • Skills in managing time effectively to meet productivity targets while maintaining quality.
  • Strong ability to organize tasks, manage schedules, and prioritize work effectively.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with team members and support the shift supervisor and Team Leads.
  • Understanding of how to manage and optimize workflow in a bindery environment.
  • Willingness and ability to perform bindery work as needed, including covering breaks and addressing staffing gaps.

Experience
  • Previous experience working in a bindery or print production environment is essential to understand the workflow and processes involved.
  • Experience in coordinating tasks and schedules to ensure efficient workflow within a production setting.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • One year of experience in bindery (Checkfolio and Bielo) preferred.
  • Certified in Bielo or Checkfolio at minimum preferred.

Decision Making
  • Coordination of jobs throughout the department, with efficiency and prioritization in mind. Be able to explain the "why" if ask a question. Act quickly in relation to workflow processes, to ensure proper work is being completed in a timely fashion. Be able to change direction quickly based on business needs and take appropriate action.

Communication and Contacts
  • Communication with Team Members, Team Leader, Process Quality and all Plant personnel. Must be able to speak to team members and share information in TBM's related to bindery and general workflow processes in a professional and respectful manner that encourages teamwork and teambuilding

Physical Requirements
  • Include bending, walking, standing and kneeling 8-10 hours a day and lifting up to 20 lbs+ on occasion.
Hourly Compensation: $19.00 - $25.00 DOE

Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM- 3:30 PM

The ultimate compensation offered for the position will depend upon several factors such as skill level, cost of living, experience, and responsibilities.
