JOB TITLE:                     Instructor of Mathematics

DEPARTMENT:              Academic Affairs Faculty

REPORTS TO:                 Division Chair

JOB TYPE:                       Full Time Exemption

AVAILABILITY:               M - F Academic Year

Core Responsibilities: Teaching 12-15 credit hours and academic advising. The successful candidate should have experience in teaching a minimum of 3-4 of the following courses: College Algebra, Contemporary Mathematics, Trigonometry, Mathematics Laboratory.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching 4-5 classes (12-15) hours each semester.
  • Advising.
  • Participating in department activities.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • The ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods, lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates with a Master's degree or doctoral degree and 18 credit hours in Mathematics will be considered.
  • The ideal candidate will have familiarity with Blackboard, hybrid courses, and the ability to utilize innovative modalities for delivering course content.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level. 
  • Ability to engage with diverse student populations and contribute to an inclusive classroom environment. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   

 It requires some walking and the ability to climb stairs, possibly sitting for long periods of time, ability to lift up to 10lbs. 1% of the time and minimum travel.  Some nights and weekends may be needed.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
