Position Overview

As a Safety Specialist, you'll be instrumental in shaping and maintaining our culture of safety. You'll provide hands-on guidance and technical support to field employees, instilling best practices and ensuring compliance across all operations. Your collaboration with supervisors and managers will be key to achieving company-wide safety goals and supporting our diverse teams.
Primary Responsibilities

  • Build robust relationships at all levels-connect with field employees and leadership to foster trust and engagement.
  • Motivate and inspire behavior change by welcoming new and current team members and championing safety initiatives across all companies and regions.
  • Timely record and upload safety near-miss incidents using company computer programs, ensuring lessons learned are shared and acted on.
  • Document all safety training efficiently and accurately using digital tools, making safety knowledge accessible to all.
  • Actively participate in safety committee calls, offering insights and guidance on incidents and preventative measures.
  • Consistently reinforce and uphold company policies, procedures, and operational standards to achieve top-tier safety results.
  • Support the company's safety standards and discipline guidelines, contributing to a reliable and consistent safety environment.
  • Organize and maintain records for all safety incidents and injuries-including general liability, auto liability, workers' compensation, and applicable claims-ensuring regulatory compliance and data integrity.
  • Create and maintain DOT qualification files and MSHA training records, keeping our workforce certified and compliant.
  • Schedule and coordinate annual safety training to keep skills sharp and standards high.
  • Track and support operations with the Safety Mentor Program, helping team members grow and excel.
  • Engage in Human Performance Coaching, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Work with the procurement department to reconcile and manage Pro-Actis materials and PPE inventory.
  • Order, stock, and distribute PPE supplies to employees, ensuring everyone is equipped for safety.
  • Develop clear, concise reports using Microsoft and other company software, communicating key safety metrics and initiatives.
  • Lead by example-demonstrate unwavering commitment to safety standards in every task and interaction.
  • Independently complete assigned projects from start to finish, showing initiative and accountability.
  • Maintain regular, reliable attendance and be adaptable to shifting priorities and company needs.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned, contributing to a culture of teamwork and flexibility.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Three or more years of progressive experience in safety roles, ideally within a multi-site environment.
  • Proven track record of improving safety performance and contributing to organizational safety culture.
Essential Requirements
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check.
  • Strict adherence to all company safety requirements and procedures.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to support colleagues and supervisors as needed.
  • Professional, courteous conduct with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
  • Flexibility to travel and work nights or weekends as business demands.
  • Consistent use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas, including face shield, hard toe shoes, and safety vest, in line with OSHA and MSHA regulations.
  • Compliance with all OSHA, DOT, and MSHA regulations as they pertain to company operations.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Proficient computer skills and experience using relevant software platforms.
  • Solid understanding of OSHA, DOT, and MSHA regulations.
  • Broad knowledge of workers' compensation protocols and best practices, or willingness to learn.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on process improvement.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and regulatory materials.
  • Talent for building trust and fostering relationships at every level of the organization.
  • Self-motivated and proactive in driving safety initiatives.
Physical Requirements
  • Primarily office-based, with occasional duties requiring walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting objects (minimum 50 lbs).
  • Ability to stand, use hands and fingers for tasks, communicate clearly, and perceive visual details with or without correction.
  • Frequent sitting and use of hands required.
Work Environment
  • Standard office setting with potential exposure to dust, noise, fumes, and varied weather conditions.
  • Possible hazards exist if equipment is misused or safety protocols are not followed-your vigilance makes a difference.
  • Fast-paced atmosphere with firm deadlines and moderate to occasionally loud noise levels.
