Automation Applications Engineer I (Finance)

Position Summary

Join our dynamic manufacturing intelligence team providing technical sales and customer support across two major product offerings. You'll implement dimensional measurement equipment (CMMs, Structured Light, Laser Trackers) in automated software-driven environments and robotic automation systems.

This role is ideal for technically-minded individuals with foundational knowledge in metrology and robotics, eager to develop skills across multiple automation technologies. You'll engage with customers and system integrators from pre-sales through post-sales support.

Travel Requirement: Up to 80% throughout North America for installations, training, and technical support.

Product Focus Areas

Tempo Hardware & Software Solutions: Our flagship product combines hardware and software to automate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), revolutionizing quality control in advanced manufacturing.

IOFM Robot Integration Solutions: We work with system integrators using our IOFM (IO Flow Manager) product to implement industrial robots from Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, and Universal Robots.

Job Responsibilities

Tempo-Focused Duties

  • Customer Engagement: Qualify solutions, provide demonstrations, and consult on system specifications
  • System Development: Configure Tempo hardware/software, develop custom applications, and optimize performance
  • Training & Support: Conduct customer training, create materials, and provide technical support

IOFM Robot Integration Duties

  • Integrator Partnership: Support system integrators with IOFM robotic measurement solutions
  • Technical Development: Configure IOFM systems for industrial robots, create programs for measurement tasks
  • Field Services: Support installation, commissioning, and provide on-site technical assistance

Shared Responsibilities

  • Create 3D models and technical drawings using Siemens NX CAD
  • Design custom fixtures and tooling for both product lines
  • Manage customer relationships and project timelines
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, sales, engineering, service)

Support new product development and testing

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or related field
  • Entry-level to 2 years experience; recent graduates with relevant coursework encouraged
  • Demonstrated knowledge in robotics, automation, or metrology

Technical Skills

  • Basic understanding of robotics principles and metrology concepts
  • Interest in learning industrial robots (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, Universal Robots) and CMM programming
  • Proficiency with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles
  • Familiarity with programming languages (Python, C++, C#)

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to manage multiple projects across different focus areas

Other Requirements

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Ability to travel up to 80% throughout North America
  • Valid driver's license and passport
  • US citizenship or permanent resident status required
  • Willingness to work from Rhode Island, Novi (Michigan), or Elgin (Illinois)

Preferred Qualifications

These are advantageous but not required:

Tempo-Related: Knowledge of metrology equipment (CMMs), quality control processes, GR&R methods, GD&T principles

IOFM-Related: Experience with industrial robots, robot programming languages (Karel, RAPID, KRL, URScript), PLC programming, robotic simulation software

General: Siemens NX experience, fixture design experience, internship with robotic/metrology systems, Git version control, system integrator experience
