Instructional Designer (Internal Only) (Finance)

Description:

The Instructional Designer is an entry-level member of UHCL's Instructional Design and Technology team who assists university faculty members in creating and modifying instructional materials for delivery in technology enhanced environments or through computer mediated communications. Creates course materials that facilitate student learning, re-purposes existing learning materials and activities to take advantage of technology delivery, and provides instructional design, instructional technology, pedagogical/andragogical training and support to enhance teaching and learning across all delivery modes.

Duties:
  • Guides faculty through the design and development process for new and revamped 100% online classes. Develops course development project plans and executes accordingly. Provides guidance and support, which may include writing and rewriting objectives as well as evaluating contents and activities.
  • Provides consultation and/or assistance to faculty, staff, and colleagues regarding existing and emerging instructional technologies. Provides instructional technology support to faculty as needed.
  • Guides faculty through the Quality Matters self-review and courtesy review requirements and process for new online courses. Provides consulting, training, and support on active learning, web-mediated instruction, assessment methods, and digital accessibility.
  • Designs, develops and delivers presentations to professional organizations, UH- System groups, or UHCL faculty, students, and staff.
  • Coordinates related instructional technology work by other Office of Information Technology specialists. Participates and collaborates on regular updates to the university's learning management and related systems.
  • Actively maintains professional development in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Pedagogy/Andragogy, Project Management, online and web-mediated teaching and learning topics, platforms, and related areas.
  • Develops documentation and content to address business operations as well as faculty and student support needs and performs related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or related field including coursework in instructional design and multimedia.
  2. Minimum one year of professional experience in instruction or training.
  3. Experience making curriculum decisions.
  4. Current employee of University of Houston-Clear Lake.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or related field including coursework in instructional design and multimedia.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems in a Higher Education environment.
  • Experience creating instructional content in Articulate Storyline.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to work through the troubleshooting process and differentiate between client-side and server-side issues during the troubleshooting process.
  • Ability to assess educational needs, evaluate course effectiveness, develop course learner outcome statements and write instructional goals and objectives.
  • Ability to work with a team in a deadline-oriented environment and to plan, lead, and manage a project to timely completion.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software and hardware and to use multiple operating systems and web browsers.
  • Ability to use common business applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, database and presentation software.
  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written as well as professional interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of and skill in various instructional system design models, with the ability to evaluate and appropriately apply across multiple course development projects.
  • Ability to work productively with a variety of persons representing diversity in temperament, skill level, attitude, time orientation and educational philosophy.
