Cultural Resources Lead/ Principal Archaeologist (Finance)

Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an experienced Principal Archaeologist to take on a leadership role as a Cultural Resources Team Lead within the cultural resources practice in California. As part of this role, you will lead an established cultural resources team focused on supporting client deliverables. You will also work closely with internal Account management team a to ensure client expectations are met, contract requirements are being upheld and lead and drive the development of a programmatic process to ensure consistent deliverable quality, streamline team communications, and align processes across projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing scalable frameworks, facilitating cross-team collaboration, and ensuring operational excellence in fast-paced environments

Role accountabilities:

As the Cultural Resources Team Lead/Principal Archaeologist, you will play a critical role in overseeing cultural resource projects throughout California, serving as a Principal Investigator (PI), and providing senior oversight to junior staff. You will manage large, client-specific programs and its associated projects, ensuring high-quality deliverables and best practices for cultural resources work. The successful candidate must have planning and permitting experience for linear infrastructure projects in California as well as a strong understanding of federal, state, and local cultural resource regulations.

As a Cultural Resources Team Lead/ Principal Archaeologist, you will leverage your technical and business knowledge to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address project challenges. You will play a key role on our cultural resources team, collaborating with project managers, program managers, and directors as part of an interdisciplinary environmental team.

You will be lead multiple projects including all levels of investigation (Classes I-III). Management of archaeological field staff and archaeological field crews, including subcontractors will be required. As needed, you will need to conduct or lead field assessments related to archaeological projects and be able to record or update new and existing resources. This will require a working knowledge of GPS systems and the ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, as well as carry supplies weighing up to 40 pounds. This role will require the ability to travel up to 25%.

This position will require a candidate to work collaboratively with a diverse team. Arcadis offers a flexible working environment and follows a hybrid work structure. A successful candidate can expect to work remotely and from the office, as needed, based on demands of project and client teams.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required:

  • Master's degree in archaeology or a related field.
  • 12 years of experience in cultural resources management, with specific expertise in California at a PI level.
  • Demonstrated experience in cultural resources management to support the construction or maintenance of linear infrastructure projects (i.e., electric, water, sewer, oil and gas, etc.).
  • Experience working with both internal and external clients.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local cultural resource regulations (CEQA, NEPA, NHPA Section 106, etc).

Preferred:
  • Familiarity with GIS software and archaeological data analysis tools.
  • Established relationships with California regulatory agencies and key stakeholders.
  • Active participation in professional organizations related to cultural resources.

We offer nine paid holidays and 20 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $131023 - $222739. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
