WL - Manufacturing Engineer (Finance)



Position Overview: The Manufacturing Engineer will support the Motors Business Unit including creation and maintenance of bills of manufacture (engineering masters) in the ERP system, tooling design support, review of drawings for manufacture, and internal process review and improvement. In this role, you will create an efficient programming process. They will be working with 5-axis mill-turn, horizontal and vertical lathes, and cylindrical grinding machines.

In This Function You Will:

  • Creates and maintains bills of manufacture (engineering masters) in ERP system.
  • Designs tools and fixtures and works with Logistics to have them manufactured in-house or by external suppliers.
  • Troubleshoots all shop floor problems with manufacturing, logistics, QA and engineering personnel. This will include review and disposition of Non-Conforming Material (NCM's) from in-house or external suppliers.
  • Identifies and documents manufacturing processes as necessary for successful part manufacture.
  • Reviews ECN (Engineering Change Notices) and makes appropriate changes to engineering masters and open work orders in coordination with logistics.
  • Researches and identifies production equipment to meet product manufacturing and necessary safety requirements.
  • Devise efficient manufacturing process with fail safe in-process inspection methods and document all processes with work instructions that abide by FMD standards.
  • Design fixtures for new/existing parts and define manufacturing process of fixtures.
  • Work with CNC manufacturing team on new part process planning.
  • Maximizing machine uptime, efficiency, and quality to exceed goal of 85% OEE.
  • Collect data with machine monitoring software and develop software to collect data and create KPI's for continuous improvement.
  • Use SolidWorks to create Operation level prints.
  • Ability to read blueprints/drawings with ASME Y14.5 GD&T
  • Troubleshoot and contribute to the resolution of any manufacturing issues at component or assembly level.
  • Represents Motors Engineering on Continuous Improvement Task Teams.
  • Works on continuously improving Manufacturing Engineering procedures and methods by using changing technology to reduce overall production costs.
  • Complete running time studies to minimize labor and maximize productivity.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic (Required):

  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least three (5) years of experience in manufacturing setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • CAD experience required. SolidWorks design software preferred.
  • Solid understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Proficient in MS Office products.
  • Must be US Citizen and cannot hold dual citizenship to any other country to meet NOFORN requirements.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technology preferred.
  • Understanding of rotating machines.
  • ISO and lean manufacturing experience including but not limited to Six Sigma, Kanban, 5S, Kaizen, etc.).

Skills

  • Ability to read written instructions and comprehend verbal instructions.
  • Ability to read and follow standard work.
  • Ability to develop and support QMS with establishing work instructions.
  • Ability to use good judgment and problem-solving skills to make informed decisions.
  • Basic computer knowledge of Windows based operating systems and programs.
  • Ability to use measuring tape, and variable gauges, such as calipers.
  • Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to use a crane once fully trained to lift items.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Repetitive lifting, bending, and squatting is inherent to this position.
  • Ability to program on CNC machines
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to wear required PPE for the role including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, and protective arm and hand coverings.
