About the Role
Position: Waste Treatment Plant Operator (Environmental Systems Operations)
Location: Manhattan, Kansas
Employment Type: Full-Time

As a Waste Treatment Plant Operator with LB&B Associates, Inc., youll play a vital role in the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of our water and wastewater treatment facility. Youll work side-by-side with experienced engineers, chemists, and fellow operators to ensure our systems provide clean, safe water to the community and protect the environment by meeting or exceeding regulatory standards.
What Youll Do
Each shift presents new challenges and growth opportunities. Your key responsibilities will include:
Operate, monitor, and maintain all aspects of the treatment facility including pumps, valves, clarifiers, digesters, filters, chemical feeders, and related infrastructure.
Monitor treatment processes, water quality, and equipment performance using computer control systems, SCADA, instrumentation, and laboratory testing.
Perform routine and preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and chemical feed systems to ensure optimal operation and minimize downtime.
Diagnose and troubleshoot plant system malfunctions, process imbalances, or equipment failures, implementing effective solutions to maintain compliance and reliability.
Collect water and wastewater samples, perform standard chemical and biological analyses, and interpret results to guide process adjustments and ensure regulatory compliance.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of plant operations, laboratory data, maintenance activities, permits, and incident responses as required by company policies and regulatory authorities.
Collaborate closely with team members, engineers, laboratory personnel, and management to optimize plant performance, share expertise, and resolve operational challenges.
Perform regular inspections and rounds, checking system pressures, flows, levels, temperatures, and monitoring alarms for safe and effective operation.
Participate in safety meetings, emergency drills, and ongoing training to stay up to date on best practices, new technologies, and evolving regulations.
Assist with inventory management of chemicals, spare parts, tools, and safety equipment to support continuous plant operations.
Respond professionally and efficiently to emergency situations such as spills, upsets, or equipment failures, prioritizing safety and environmental protection.
Adhere at all times to company safety protocols, PPE requirements, and environmental regulationsyour vigilance keeps our community safe.
Deliver friendly, professional customer service to clients, regulatory agencies, and the public, proudly representing LB&B Associates, Inc.
What Were Looking For
Do you bring a strong work ethic, technical skillset, and a passion for environmental responsibility? Were searching for candidates who offer:
Required: Valid state certification as a water or wastewater treatment operator (Class I, II, III, or IV preferred depending on facility needs).
Required: Minimum 5 years of experience operating, maintaining, or troubleshooting waste treatment plant systems.
Thorough understanding of treatment processes (chemical, biological, physical), regulatory requirements (EPA, KDHE, OSHA), and best practices in environmental operations.
Proven experience with pumps, valves, blowers, SCADA, chemical feed systems, laboratory sampling, and analysis.
Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to methodically identify and resolve complex system or process issues with minimal supervision.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, operating procedures, process flow diagrams, and laboratory reports.
Excellent communication skillsable to clearly share information with teammates, supervisors, regulators, and the public.
Proficiency with basic computer applications for reporting, data entry, and recordkeeping.
Attention to detail, organizational excellence, and an unwavering commitment to safety and environmental compliance at every step.
Physical ability to work in plant environmentsstanding, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in confined spaces or at heights as needed.
Flexibility to work variable shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins as facility demands require.
A collaborative mindset, positive attitude, and drive to deliver operational excellence and environmental stewardship every day.
Physical Demands
Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as required.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching throughout the shift.
Manual dexterity for operating, maintaining, and repairing pumps, valves, laboratory equipment, and mechanical systems.
Exposure to noise, heat, cold, chemicals, mechanical hazards, heights, confined spaces, and weather conditionswith full PPE provided.
