Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting a Nuclear Systems Engineer (3669) in Idaho Falls, ID.

The Nuclear Systems Engineer will serve as the cognizant system engineer supporting the a reactor design. This role is responsible for overseeing safety-related reactor systems-covering design, operations, performance tracking, and lifecycle support.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and recommend design improvements for advanced micro-reactor demonstrators.
  • Monitor reactor systems during operations, including data tracking, trending, and upkeep.
  • Ensure all systems meet national consensus safety standards (codes and regulations).
  • Perform engineering calculations, specifications, system analyses, and testing.
  • Maintain configuration management and design documentation.
  • Collaborate with program managers and lead engineers to ensure nuclear safety compliance.
  • Design support systems, including P&IDs, PLC logic, layouts, and wiring.
  • Produce detailed design drawings such as physical layouts and installation details.
  • Create system and equipment design documents including process and instrument control drawings and system design descriptions.

Requirements

Required:

  • Proficient in systems-engineering lifecycle practices (INCOSE/NASA/DoD frameworks), requirements management, SEMP development, and configuration management tools.
  • Familiarity with systems-engineering toolchains, PLM/ALM platforms, relational databases, and version control systems.
  • Proven ability to assess and enhance engineering processes and implement continuous improvements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 3-6 years.
  • Experience with safety-related reactor systems in a nuclear power environment.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a DOE Q-clearance.
Preferred:
  • Familiarity with advanced micro-reactor technologies.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, U.S. citizenship is required.
