Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Neurology (Neuropsychology) (Finance)



Postdoctoral Research Fellow available in Clinical Neuropsychology.

The Neuropsychology Division of the Department of Neurology at the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston is seeking a postdoctoral fellow in clinical neuropsychology. The successful candidate will receive advanced education and training in the competencies necessary for the specialized practice of clinical neuropsychology, emphasizing advanced training in the clinical evaluation of adult and geriatric patients with a range of neurocognitive and psychological disorders, and providing opportunities to engage in research in the field of neuropsychology. The training curriculum was intentionally designed to adhere to the Houston Conference Guidelines for Specialty Training in Neuropsychology, meet requirements for board certification in clinical neuropsychology as defined by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), and build competency with the provision of neuropsychological services with a multicultural and multiracial/ethnic population.

Key Responsibilities:

• Successfully meet all program requirements throughout the course of the 2-year fellowship

• Provide clinical services, including neuropsychological evaluations, psychotherapy, and cognitive remediation, predominantly in outpatient settings

• Communicate evaluation results to patients, families, and referring providers by crafting comprehensive written reports of evaluation findings and formal feedback appointments with patients

• Enhance knowledge of brain-behavior relationships and neurodegenerative and acquired disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, traumatic brain injury, and cerebrovascular disease, through didactic attendance, completion of a nervous system and behavior course, and other educational activities

• Advocate for individuals with and educate community members about neurocognitive disorders through community outreach programs such as the Walk to End Alzheimer's and Brain Night for Kids

• Complete a scholarly activity or clinical research project such as a poster presentation, published article, or symposium presentation

• Successfully pass the milestone and case presentations utilized to assess competence in the areas of clinical knowledge, current scientific literature, ethical issues, and cultural considerations

• Mentor junior fellows, graduate and medical students, and neurology residents

Position Summary:

A biomedical postdoc position provides an opportunity for early-career researchers to gain valuable experience, develop independent research skills, and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in their field of expertise.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Plans and conducts experiments, analyzes data, and prepares publications describing results.
2. Assists in training and mentoring of lab personnel, including graduate students and other trainees.
3. Reads and evaluates literature.
4. Possess interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate and communicate with individuals at all levels.
5. Have strong written and oral communication skills.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Doctoral/Terminal Degree

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
