Senior Underwriting Manager (Finance)



Overview

Under the direction of the Director of Indirect Consumer Lending, the Senior Underwriting Manager ensures the efficient operation and compliance of the indirect lending consumer loan officers. The Manager oversees consumer loan officers with underwriting, setting performance benchmarks and ensuring adherence to industry standards and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of consumer loan officers, providing guidance, training, and performance management. 
  • Review and approve underwriting decisions for complex cases, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements. 
  • Develop and implement underwriting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and risk management. 
  • Monitor team performance against key metrics and provide timely feedback. 
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless communication and operations across teams. 
  • Analyze market trends and risk factors to adjust underwriting strategies and optimize portfolio performance.
  • Present reports and updates to senior management, detailing underwriting outcomes and departmental progress. 
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the underwriting team.

  • Compliance: Knowledge of financial regulations and standards.
  • Technical knowledge: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with underwriting software and tools

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in an office environment, sitting for extended periods.
  • Capability to travel occasionally for meetings, training sessions, or conferences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience, including 2 years in a supervisory role. 
  • Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance.
  • Professional certifications in underwriting or risk management are a plus (such as CPCU or ARM).
