Associate Athletics Director (Finance)



The Director for Student-Athlete Academic Services at the University of South Florida reports directly to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies within Student Success. The Director leads and manages the overall operations of the Academic Services team to ensure academic outreach and support for a community of approximately 500 student-athletes representing 19 NCAA Division 1 sport programs. The Director serves on the leadership team for Undergraduate Studies and USF Athletics.

The Director [working title: Associate Athletic Director for Academics] is directly responsible for the day-to-day administration of academic services programs and services; develops and implements academic interventions; and proactively engages student-athletes across multiple learning styles. The position provides strong and committed leadership setting a high standard of academic integrity that results in satisfactory academic progress and graduation of student-athletes. Academic Services maintains a staff of 13 full-time employees, a team of 6-8 post-baccalaureate interns and a full compliment of tutorial staff. The University of South Florida is a member of the American Athletic Conference (AAC). This position includes academic sports oversight.

Special Skills or Training:

Maintains current and detailed knowledge of rules & regulations and policies & procedures related to the university, the American Athletic Conference (AAC) and NCAA.Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of four years related exempt level experience; or a Master's degree plus two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. Must have at least two years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree preferred. Preferred a minimum a seven years full-time work experience in academics, compliance and/or learning support within a Division I athletics program.

    (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree

  • Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.

  • Provides leadership and supervision to the Academic Services staff. Directs the hiring, training, and development of all the unit's professional and student support staff engaged in academic advising, learning support, tutoring and other student support services for student-athletes. Prepare and monitor the Academic Services budget ($1.3 Million). Responsible for the the day-to-day administration of operations in support of student-athlete success. Serves on leadership team for Undergraduate Studies and USF Athletics.
  • Collaborates with Senior Associate Athletic Director of Student Athlete Success and athletic sport coaches to provide individualized academic pathways for incoming freshmen and transfer student-athletes in coordination with recruitment, admissions, and academic support services. This includes serving as a liaison to the Committee on Alternative Admissions.
  • Responsible for ensuring student data is accurately maintained and submitted in accordance with NCAA guidelines. Coordinate submission of Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and Academic Progress Rate for NCAA mandated reporting. Manage data in partnership with the staff for reporting requirements including presentations, annual reports and accountability plans in alignment with the State University System of Florida, Board of Governors and the USF Board of Trustees.
  • Communicates and coordinates with faculty, academic colleges, and campus partners to ensure alignment in academic advising processes for student-athletes. Build strong relationships with faculty seeking feedback on student-athlete academic performance and sharing regular updates regarding academic policies and services.
  • Monitors and advise academic progress of student-athletes in TBD sport. Advises student-athlete caseload on major/course selection, in collaboration with college major advisor. Evaluates academic risk/need of student-athletes; provides guidance to students to develop and continuously maintain comprehensive graduation plans. Monitors and tracking continuing eligibility for assigned sport.
  • Collaborate and maintain relationships across Undergraduate Studies, Student Success, and university community partners. Serves as liaison with several university departments and personnel including, but not limited to, academic advising units, Counseling Center, Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, Orientation, Student Accessibility Services, Testing Services, and other resources. Attend department and academic-related meetings as required for Undergraduate Studies and USF Athletics.
